Missouri Valley residents lost water for several hours early last week, June 29, 30.

The water was restored by 11 a.m. June 30, though residents were advised that the water was not yet safe to drink. Instead, people needed to boil their water before using it for drinking or cooking.

That restriction was lifted at 3 p.m. Thursday, after testing by the state Department of Natural Resources, said Loree Hankins, deputy clerk for the town.

Hankins said there was a water main break June 29 along Main Street / 1st Street, near Pizza Ranch.

However, the valves to shut off the water for the immediate area were not working, which forced city crews to shut off water for a wider area of the downtown, Hankins said.

The valves were fixed the next day, she said.

As for the tests, the DNR must conduct two of them. Only after the second test was completed could the water restrictions be lifted, Hankins said.
