Woodbine Legion Commander Receives Quilt of Honor 

Steve Harrington, the Commander of the Woodbine American Legion Post #143, recently received a Quilt of Honor from Harrison County’s Women for Veterans.  He was recognized for 26 years of military service in three branches of the armed forces.

Steve served four years in the US Navy as a Medical Corpsman and an Aerospace Medicine Technician, two years in the Marine Corps in the Platoon Leadership program, and twenty years in the US Air Force as a medical officer and hospital administrator. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Harrington has served as Commander of the American Legion in Woodbine, and has initiated many community projects benefiting Woodbine, and area veterans.

Women For Veterans, based in Woodbine, serves Harrison County veterans and is a nonprofit organization. They provide service and assistance to veterans such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, and clothing if needed. In addition, they provide gift cards to current military personnel, and they give scholarships to high school seniors. The organization also makes and manages the Quilts of Valor/Honor program which provides a quilt, and special recognition to veterans for service to our country.
