Woodbine Trident swimmers glide to Regional success

 

The Woodbine Tridents participated at the 2024 Regional Swim Championships at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn on March 23-24. There were over 1,400 competitors from 11 different states competed.

 

The Tridents Swim Club in Woodbine wrapped up their third season recently, with the state meet at the Wellmark YMCA in Des Moines (March 15-16) and one swimmer swimming in the MidwestRegional Swim Meet (March 22-23) in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota.

 

This season the Tridents Swim Club competed in a total of eight meets during the season and ended with the state and regional meet. To compete at the state meet swimmers were required to reach a qualifying time in an event they swam during the regular season. There were 13 swimmers that went to state.

 

“The swimmers did a great job at the state meet. We took first in the boys, age 15-18, 200 medley relay and also the boys, age 15-18, 200 free relay. Wyatt Reed had a great state meet placing 1st in the boys, 13-15, 50 butterfly; 4th in the boys, 13-14, 100 individual medley, and first in the boys, 13-14, 100 m butterfly. “ said Head Coach Nick Lefeber.

 

In addition to the great state meet, one swimmer, freshman Caydi Schafer, competed at the Midwest Regional Championship at the University of Minnesota. She swam in four events at the meet and achieved a new personal best in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:21.94 and in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:31.17. She also swam the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

 

 

DENISON STINGRAYS RECAP

Senior Kylie Neligh recorded some top finishes at the Regional Swim Championships for the Denison Stingrays.

It included, a ninth place finish in the 200 m medley relay (2:06.28); a fourth place finish in the 400 m medley relay (4:37.32); and a second place finish in the 200 m freestyle relay (1:40.05). Individually, she recorded a 15th plae finish in the 100 m breaststroke (1:26.60), and a 16th place finish in the Butterfly (1:19.37).

Her sister, eighth grade Kassidy Neligh, had top finishes with a 12th place finish in the 200 m medley relay (2:10.30); 10th place finish in the 400 m freestyle relay (4:29.53); a 12th place finish in the 400 m medley relay (5:06.99); a 10th place finish in the 200 m freestyle relay (1:57.97), and a 15th place finish in the 100 m butterfly (1:25.14).
