Pape receives ‘Quilt of Valor’

Larry Pape of Woodbine received a ‘Quilt of Valor’ from Harrison County’s Women for Veterans on Feb. 4 at the Woodbine Main Street.

Larry is a veteran of the United States Navy, and member of the Woodbine American Legion Post #143. His naval service covered a total of six years, including active duty and reserve duty from 1956-1962. Larry served in the naval aviation field with the 144th Fighter Squadron. His tour of duty was on the USS Hornet aircraft carrier of the 7th Fleet, which included far east countries of Japan, Philippines, and Vietnam. It was during this time that Green Berets made their first appearance in Vietnam.

“Larry served his country honorably in the United States Navy, and is an active American Legion member serving the Woodbine community’ said Steve Harrington, Commander of the Woodbine Legion. “We thank Bette Jensen and the Women for Veterans for recognizing his service.”
