Edna M. Gebel, 82

Edna Marie Gebel age 82, of Missouri Valley, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, with family around her at Azria Health. Edna was born Dec. 21, 1940, in Dimock, S.D., the daughter of Ella (Koster) and Raymond Hohn along with six other siblings. Edna was married to the love of her life Kenneth Gebel for 64 years this coming June 11. They married in 1959, in Mitchell, S.D., started a family which consisted of five children which Blossomed into twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren whom will miss her dearly.

Edna worked at many places over the years until she found her calling at Longview Nursing Home (now called Azria Health). She started as a nurse’s aid and worked her way up to being a “Med Nurse”. Many of her young co-workers that she worked with were there to take care of her many years later. We thank them so very much!! She retired early at 65 in 2005. Edna especially loved camping, sewing, painting and last but not least baking. She loved finding new recipes to try out. One of her favorites was green tomato pie!!

Edna is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Melvin, Delbert and Joel.

Edna is survived by her husband, Kenneth Gebel; children, Darla and husband Mike, Ron and wife Annette, Rick and wife Margaret, Randy and wife Leah, Scott and wife Carla; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen Mountain, Donna Steiner; brother Denny Hohn.

Visitation, Rosary, and Mass of Christian Burial were held Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Missouri Valley. The celebrant was Father Raphael Masabakhwa assisted by Deacon Michael Camey. The organist was Kris Gash and the vocalist was Elizabeth Dillinger. The vocal selections were “Be Not Afraid” and “On Eagles Wings”. The casket bearers were Chris Kelch, Kyle Gebel, Andy Gebel, Mike Gebel, Derek Gebel, Mike Rumage, and Braydon Gebel. The final resting place is Evergreen Cemetery in Missouri Valley. Memorial donations can be directed to her family for future designation.
