Eunice LaVonne (Sundell) Beckner was born Aug. 13, 1937, in Sioux City, Woodbury County, to Victor Henry and Laura Grace (Peterson) Sundell. She was raised in rural Dixon County, Nebraska near the communities of Wakefield, Laurel and Carroll where she gained her hard work ethic and a strong sense of family connection. Eunice was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Carroll High School in Carroll, Neb. in 1953. She continued her education at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., where she earned her teaching certificate. On May 26, 1957, Eunice and Harry Leland Beckner were united in marriage at Concord, Dixon County, Neb. To this union, two children were born. During their early years, the family lived in many different homes in the Fremont, Omaha and Mondamin areas. There she held a variety of jobs, including teaching and being a hostess at Bishops. In 1977, the family settled on a farmstead just outside of Logan. Soon after, Eunice started working as a CNA at Westmont Care Center in Logan and continued there until her retirement.

Eunice was a very talented lady. She baked and decorated cakes, crocheted many baby blankets, sewed and mended clothes, and raised a large garden. Eunice was always ready to go on road trips with her friends to Omaha, where she knew ALL the shortcuts. She had a unique knack for finding the humorous side of most situations and shared many hours of laughter with her family and friends. Mostly, she loved watching her family grow.

Eunice passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Azria Health Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Joshua Beckner. She is survived by two children: daughter, LaVonne (Bill) Shearer and son, Gene (Kris) Beckner, both of Logan; grandchildren, Melinda (Shearer) Ruppert of Bancroft, Neb., Rebecca (Shearer) Quackenbush and husband Josh of Omaha, Neb., Eric Beckner and wife Samantha of Missouri Valley, Cameron Beckner and wife Kristina of Missouri Valley, Morgan Beckner and wife Kendra of Logan; 10 great-grandchildren; close friend, Helen Wetzstein and many other friends and relatives.
