Frederick “Fred” A. Mitsch, 79, of Pisgah, passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, at his home in Pisgah surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be 11 A.M. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, with Pastor Paul Coen, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Fred’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa.  

Frederick Alden Mitsch was born June 24, 1943, in Kalispell, Mont., the son of Adolph and Nellie (Leighty) Mitsch. Fred graduated from Flathead High School, Kalispell, Mont., with the class of 1967. After high school he joined the United States Air Force.

Fred and Frances (Oliver) were united into marriage Aug. 13, 1972, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She passed away on Dec. 4, 2019.

Fred was a millwright for many years and was employed in Montana and Blair, Neb. Fred enjoyed running and owning his own business barbequing for many various events such as weddings and reunions. He also enjoyed working on old tractors and farm equipment, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Fred was a caring and loving man and was very comical and ornery and could put a smile on your face when you were down. He also had a good heart and took good care of his family.

Survivors include his children, Bradford Mitsch, Terri (Meyer) Micheals, Tami (Meyer) Van Vliet, Tim Meyer, and Todd Meyer; 18 grandchildren, Stacey, Heather, Jake, Cari, Tiffany, Traci, Aubrey, Bryan, Izzy, Sara, Angie, Amy, Annie, Jessica, Dustin, Philip, Josh, and Wyatt; 33 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kayla, River, Madison, Brodie, Breane, Grace, Triston, Tanner, Elly, Braydon, Lane, Rose, Maddy, Israel, Rylie, Teagen, Mason, Skyler, Caiden, Shaeley, Keira, Ady, Molly, Katie, Odran, Adalia, Everett, Eldin, Ember, Maevry, Maren, and Weaver; two great-great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Nellie (Leighty) Mitsch; wife, Frances (Oliver) Mitsch; sister, Sheila Volkman; brother, Dick Mitsch; and daughter, Tina (Meyer) Peters.
