Gerald (Jerry) E. Gibson, 65

Gerald (Jerry/Skeeter) Eugene Gibson was born Sept. 1, 1957, in Council Bluffs, to Everett and Pauline (Christensen) Gibson, and passed away on July 11, 2023, at the Age of 65.

Jerry graduated from Missouri Valley High School Class of 1976. He worked at Gas Stations throughout his school years. He then worked as a Mechanic and Car Salesman at Ratigan’s. He married Michelle Smallwood in July 1978. They have two children together Nicholle and Jeremy. In 1982, he joined the Air Force to become a Firefighter. He made Staff Sargent on his first tour. He received numerous accreditations with the Air Force. After being stationed in Panama for three years he was then stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha, Neb. He then became a Firefighter for the 185th Air Refueling Wing of the Iowa Air National Guard. He was stationed in Georgia during Desert Storm. Jerry started driving semis and loved his Peterbilt till he had to retire from driving.

Jerry loved a lot of things especially his grandkids, kids, family and friends. He loved to make everyone laugh and was pretty good at it. He loved to bowl, fish, water ski, rock n’roll music, ‘56 Chevy’s, playing his Clapton guitar and to ride his Harley. He made several trips to Sturgis and even a few to California on the Harley. Jerry enjoyed playing in the Byron James Gang Band especially since his brother Roger played. Jerry enjoyed helping Jeremy build his ‘77 Camaro and racing it. He wasn’t always fun to be with while working on a vehicle, but you could learn a lot about them plus some choice phrases. Jerry enjoyed writing poems and songs. He also enjoyed changing the words to songs to make you laugh.

Jerry leaves behind Sue Stevenson his Loving Companion; daughter, Nicholle Gibson Altstadt and her husband Justin; son, Jeremy Gibson and his wife Trisha; wife (Separated), Michelle Gibson; grandkids, Dalton Cooper, BreeAnna Cooper, Caitlin Gibson and Selah Altstadt; brother, Roger (Wanda) Gibson; sister-in-law, Cathy Moore; extended family, Jacob Stevenson (Heather), Samantha Miodowski children Michael and Bella, Joshua Stevenson (Tiffany) children Krista, Kaylee and Carlee; plus a lot of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jerry in death are his mom and dad; brother, Ron Moore; sister Shirley (Sis) Jenkins; mother-in-law, Dorothy Smallwood Andersen; additional loved ones and friends who will be remembered.

A Celebration of Life service will be Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 5 p.m., at the Eagles Club in Missouri Valley. Pastor Connie McWilliams will be officiating. The honorary bearers are Jeremy Gibson, Jacob Stevenson, Joshua Stevenson, Randy Foland, Dalton Cooper, Monte Smallwood, Bryan Gibson, Chad Gibson, Norm Dunn and Jason Dems. The final resting place is Oak Grove Cemetery in Missouri Valley. The family would like to invite everyone to the Eagles Club from 6-8p.m. to remember Jerry.
