Longtime Kenai resident, Grace Ann Shook, 71, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 13, 2021, surrounded by her family. Grace was born in Newark, NJ on July 8, 1949, to Lester and Ester Borgen. She graduated high school in 1967 at KCHS and married her husband, Vern Shook, on Jan. 4, 1969, at 19 years old. They lived in Kenai, Alaska up until 2006, when they moved to Valdez, Alaska and finally moved to Missouri Valley in 2011 to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. She was an unforgettable woman who put everyone else’s needs first, she made delicious food for all, and she adored spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being with her friends at the Kenai Fabric Store and made quilts for dozens of family, friends, and those in need, and she enjoyed her time in fellowship with her family at Kenai Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David. Grace is survived by: her husband of 52 years, Vern Shook; children: Celest Engelbarts, Kelly Gschwend, Andrew and Amanda Shook; grandchildren: Anthony and Deb Engelbarts, Krista Engelbarts and Shane Lyons, Amber and Cody Lundholm, Katie Engelbarts, Sarah Gschwend, Megan Gschwend, Aaron Gschwend, Jaxon Shook, Leighton Shook; great-grandchildren: Addison, Kinely, Joey, Thomas, Xavier, Miah. Siblings: Butch Borgen, Bob Borgen, Richard and Carolyn Borgen, Bill Borgen, Barbara Cooper and several nieces and nephews.
