James “Jim” Carl Williamson passed away at the Dunlap Nursing Home on July 31, 2023, after a very short battle with cancer at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 4 days.

Jim was born June 27, 1944, at Greer’s Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, to Loyal R and Ina P (McCune) Williamson.  He was the youngest of 6 children.  He graduated from Missouri Valley High School with the class of 1962.  After high school, he worked for several years at Bemis Bag Co. in Omaha.  In 1969 he went to work for the Iowa DOT maintenance shed in Missouri Valley and remained there until his retirement.

In 1963, Jim’s best friend introduced Jim to his cousin, Janice Trede at the Missouri Valley swimming pool, and the rest is history.  They were married on June 6, 1965, at the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley and just celebrated their 58th anniversary in June.  In 1970, Jim became the proud father of their adopted son, Timothy James.

Jim loved the outdoors.  He loved hunting, fishing and playing slow pitch softball with the Modale Team.  Then in his 40’s, he discovered golf.  While they were both working, on the weekends, you would find the two of them at the Country Club from early morning until late in the evening.  It was not unusual for them to play anywhere from 54 to 72 holes in a day.  Jim’s proudest moment was when he had a hole-in-one on hole number 5 on July 1, 1996.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, John and Lena Trede; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Donnie Walsh, Phyllis and Edward Behm, and Joanna and Laverne Nuzum; Robert Kirlin; brother Dwight Williamson; and infant granddaughter Destiny Renee.

He is survived by his wife Janice, son Timothy, sister Judy Kirlin, granddaughter Isabella Jean, grandson Ryan James.  Many, many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.  Jim never knew a stranger.

It was Jim’s wish to be cremated.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Logan-Missouri Valley Country Club, Friday, August 11, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a luncheon being served.

A private family Graveside service will be held at a later date.
