Jermane “Jerri” K. Peterson, 85

Jermane Kathryn Peterson, 85, died on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, at Country House in Council Bluffs. She was born on May 7, 1938, to Elmer and Eleanor (Clausen) Bakken in Northwood. She attended school in Northwood and graduated in 1956. In June of 1957, Jerri was united in marriage to Floyd Field at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They were blessed by the birth of three children, Rhonda, Brian and Kimberley. Floyd died in 1961. Jerri met Lyle Peterson and they were married on May 31, 1963, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Jerri was an Interior Decorator for 25 years, helping to transform people’s houses into a home.

Jerri enjoyed sewing, baking and making crafts. She loved to travel and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. Most of all, Jerri cherished her time with her family and especially attending her kids and grandkids activities.

Jerri was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Floyd Field and Lyle Peterson; parents-in-law, Carl and Freda Field and Clair and Marcella Peterson; siblings and siblings-in-law, Eldrin Bakken, Duane Bakken, Kenneth Bakken, Mavis (Richard) Elwell, Leon Bakken, Marvel Kennedy, David LaPointe, Donald (Esther) Anderson and Richard Field. Jerri is survived by her children, Rhonda (Tim) Mechaelsen of Kamrar, Brian Field of Smyrna, Ga. and Kim (Mike) Hinkel of Logan; grandsons, Nathan (Maria) Mechaelsen, Tyler (Amanda) Hinkel, Derek (Melissa) Mechaelsen and Kurtis (Tammy) Hinkel; great-grandchildren, Maddox, Miles and Monroe Mechaelsen, Avery and Harper Hinkel, Rocco and Dax Mechaelsen and Haddie, Harrison and Henry Hinkel; siblings, Jerry (Bonnie) Bakken of Northwood, Jeanette Anderson and Jeannine Bakken of Woodbury, Minn., Bonnie (Richard) Lindner of Loyal, Wis., Carolyn LaPointe of Marshfield, Wis. and Steve Bakken of Mason City; brothers-in-law, Don (Kay) Peterson and Brian (Kathy) Peterson; and many other loving family and friends.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan with Rev, Daniel Steeb and Vicar Matt Martin presiding over the service. The musician was Dona Emswiler The congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “When Peace Like A River” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill. The pallbearers were Nathan Mechaelsen, Tyler Hinkel, Derek Mechaelsen, Kurtis Hinkel, Tim Mechaelsen and Mike Hinkel. Jerri’s final resting place is at the Greenwood Cemetery outside of Logan.
