Joseph William Boysen passed away on Sept. 29, 2026, at his home in Shenandoah. He is survived by his loving wife, Julie, with whom he shared 43 years together as a devoted couple, 40 of those years united in marriage.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents, Billy E. Boysen and Gladys M. Ruffcorn Boysen; his sister Christine Boysen, his brother-in-law Dave Traylor, and his father-in-law Ole G. Horn, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Julie, his daughter Jeanette (Shawn Armstrong); his grandson KJ; his sister Kim Traylor; his four brothers Tad, Walter, Ed, and Tom, his mother-in-law Marita Horn, and his brothers-in-law Jay Horn and Kyle Horn. He is also fondly remembered by his aunt Kathy Buick, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
Born in Little Sioux and raised in River Sioux, Joe graduated from West Harrison High School in 1972. In his early years, he traveled extensively repairing gym floors, a job that reflected his strong work ethic and easygoing nature. Joe met Julie, the love of his life in 1983 in Shenandoah, and they married in 1986. They built a home in Shenandoah filled with warmth, humor, and devotion. He worked as a school custodian at Shenandoah High School, a role he took pride in and fulfilled faithfully until retiring in 2015. One of his greatest joys was returning each year for the Little Sioux homecoming and parade, where he enjoyed catching up with friends, sharing stories, and reconnecting with the community that shaped him. Joe will be remembered for his gentle spirit, loyalty to family, and quiet, steady love. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. Funeral Services are pending.
