Juanita A. Johnsen, 93

Juanita Ann (Heim) Johnsen, 93, of Woodbine, died Nov. 7, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born on July 21, 1930, to William and Emma Marie (Kierscht) Heim near Logan. She graduated from Logan High School in 1948. On Dec. 5, 1948, she married Lynn Robert Johnsen and together, they raised five boys and farmed outside of Logan and Woodbine. When Juanita wasn’t attending wrestling meets and football games, she and Lynn spent time dancing and playing cards. The family enjoyed many summer vacations in Minnesota.

In 1984, Juanita began her career at the bank in Woodbine where she was known for working at the drive-thru window and knowing just about every customer and their account number. She was very active in the community, especially as a member of the Woodbine United Methodist Church where she worked the thrift shop, served as treasurer, and baked many pies for annual Applefest celebrations. Juanita was a member of the Red Hat Society and PEO. She also volunteered at the Harrison County Visitor Center spending time in the store and teaching students on field trips how to make soap. She greatly enjoyed her time as a Teammates mentor for Woodbine Community Schools.

A loyal Hallmark customer, Juanita never missed a birthday, anniversary, or graduation celebration. Many times reminding her children and grandchildren that it was their anniversary. She enjoyed traveling to see her grandchildren, hosting large holiday gatherings with her immediate and extended family, and attending local sporting events, concerts and recitals to support her great-grandchildren.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lynn; sons, Rex, Gale and Rodney “Barney”; daughter-in-law, Barb; brothers, Bill and Merle; and sisters, Marilyn and Doris. She is survived by two sons, John (Leia) Johnsen and Charlie Johnsen (special friend Marilyn Haworth), both of Woodbine; daughters-in-law, Debra Johnsen of the Lake of the Ozarks and Lorraine Thomas of Modale; sister, LaVonne (Don) Griffith of Webster City; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and many beloved relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Woodbine. Pastor Nikki Ahart presided over the service. The musician was Rick Powell with musical selections of “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone”. The recorded musical selection was “You’ll Be There” by George Straight. The honorary pallbearers were Jodi Jackson, Tammy Greiman, Kristi Warner, Jenny Johnsen, Julie Kingsley, Sarah Hill, Chasity McDaniel and Paige Johnsen. The pallbearers were Jeff Johnsen, Doug Johnsen, Lynn Johnsen, Danny Johnsen, Jason Johnsen, Johnny Johnsen and Brandon Johnsen. Juanita’s final resting place is at the Woodbine Cemetery.
