America's future is at stake on Nov. 5. Never in 248 years has our young country been so close to becoming a third-world country if the current party is allowed to stay in power. Our great country has overcome wars, turmoil, disasters and great days, too. We came together as Americans, regardless of color, sex or religion. America is the last great hope to the rest of the world. We all have a duty to keep it that way. We all have a duty to get involved in national and local elections. Most of all, we all have a voice. We must use it. If we see corruption, we must stop it. If we see taxpayer dollars being misused, we must stop it.

Now and then, a taxpayer is willing to step up to the plate, get involved, decide enough is enough and decide to run for office. But that candidate must be vetted like a fine-tooth comb, to prove to all taxpayers that they will fight like heck to preserve every taxpayer dollar. Harrison County is fortunate to have a candidate running for the Board of Supervisors office: Rebecca Wilkerson.

Attending a majority of the Board of Supervisors meetings over the past few years, she knows the insights already of that office, and does not need a lot of special training from others. What does she bring to Harrison County? Transparency, honesty, communication, open doors, knowledge, and most of all, a dedication to saving misused taxpayer dollars. The Board of Supervisors Office is a very important office to run for. Major decisions are made affecting us all. Budgets, spending, roads, levies, etc.

Harrison County, you have a very important box to check on Nov. 5.
