Administrators/Directors’ Reports Elementary Principal Jill Kiger Introducing New Staff members, Kara Dickinson Kindergarden, Elizabeth Meeker 5th Grade ELA, and Laura Henry 5th Grade Math. Noteworthy events: September was a great month at the elementary school. Staff dug into the curriculum with their students; FAST testing took place. We kicked off a new reading program, celebrated student success in math on ISASP from last spring and participated in events for family night/Homecoming week. On Sept. 26, staff analyzed their FAST data. Results are below followed by some of the instructional steps staff are taking. Mrs. Kiger discussed literacy and math FAST numbers. Our math data continues to be a strength in most grade levels. We did notice our second graders returned to school performing lower than expected (65%) after leaving first grade scoring 95%. Dr. Leonard has been pushing in and working to support core instruction and those teachers in that grade level since this was unexpected. For literacy, our first grade and second grade data came in low. We are currently working on a plan to focus on core skills by increasing opportunities for response. This will be done by using our reading specialist, Mrs. Johnsen, to teach a section of core skills to a first grade group and a second grade group. We are looking to implement this right after conferences as it takes time to rebuild schedules, organize all the materials, etc. We’ll evaluate our plan at the end of the semester Upcoming events: Oct. 16 Anticipated community night for PK (aka Fire night) Oct. 27-28 Conferences Oct. 30 Halloween parties Oct. 31 No school-comp day Nov. 6 Data Day Dec. 9 K-4 Concert Dec. 18 5-8 Concert Secondary Principal Blake Dickinson Introducing New Staff members Chloe Killpack Level 3 Special Education, Cait Niehus Middle School Counselor, Gabriel Potts Secondary Choir. 6th Grade teacher Jaimey Kephart was not present. Notable moments: The secondary building received a rating of High Performing on this year’s Iowa School Performance Profile. Mrs. Hemphill took ten students to Iowa City to participate in the Design Dash, where they worked to find solutions to problems surrounding cancer. Avery Hinkel and Vala Springhower won the award for best pitch. Our Top Cats were selected for demonstrating the trait of empathy: 6th Grade: Leciya Hoffman, 7th Grade: Harper Hinkel, 8th Grade: Mason Van Iten, 9th Grade: Bailey Blevins, 10th Grade: Bella Klutts, 11th Grade: Maria Kiger, 12th Grade: Anthony Householder Students are getting real-world communication experience through social media content creation, working broadcasts of sporting events, and publishing Panther Prints magazine. The 8th graders went to the Missouri Valley library to learn from their traveling exhibit about the life of Anne Frank. The quiz bowl team placed 3rd at their first competition in Seward, Nebraska. Homecoming week was packed with activities, including: Jersey auction Dome opening/volleyball game Senior night volleyball game, Homecoming football game Lip Sync Battle Window painting/hallway & door decorating Powderpuff volleyball and powderbuff volleyball + community bonfire Community pep rally w/ coronation - King Luke Walski & Queen Campbell Chase Dance Seven seniors have met their graduation requirements and are applying to graduate early Progress toward goals: Teachers finalized professional growth plans and joined “huddles” - small groups of teachers who will meet weekly to review progress and hold one another accountable to their goals. To increase students participating in work-based learning, our DCAP team will participate in an upcoming workshop, Mr. Killpack and Mr. Krueger will attend Iowa STEM Summit, and we are exploring the possibility of an FFA program. Superintendent Jacob Hedger Facility/Construction Items - The elementary classrooms are internally completed. There is still work to be done on the EFIS exterior. Waiting for bench and trophy cases to be completed. The exterior is all taking shape and will hopefully be completed soon. Drainage, dirt work, and other exterior finishes are in progress. Kurtis has seeded everything that can be seeded and worked get straw on top of the areas out front. Monthly Newsletter - October Newsletter Staff Brags - Delany Aquallo and Baylee Thompson - Their leadership of the Student Council is fantastic. Planning Homecoming is a huge undertaking and they do such a great job in helping guide students in these endeavors. Preschool - It has shown to have many challenges this year, and the team is doing a great job problem solving and working to find support for students. Levi Ettleman - He has had an expanded amount of work the past several weeks due to the Dome opening. His work has been greatly appreciated. Custodial Staff - I am not sure exactly how many extra square feet they are cleaning this year, but it has been a whirlwind the past two weeks and they are working a lot of extra hours to make it all happen. Open Teaching/Staff Positions: Asst. HS Boys Basketball Paraeducator Cook WIC Expansion The WIC Superintendents voted in unison with their respective school boards to approve both Red Oak and Shenandoah to join the WIC. Treynor also voted to remain in the WIC. The hope is that all schools involved in the numerous transitions will all move in the same year. The WIC AD’s have voiced their preference for all schools to jointly make the move prior to next year. The athletic union has stated that if all parties are in favor of the moves, they will approve them without delay. They do have to establish their committee first.
