Spencer E. Smith, 65, of Missouri Valley, passed away on Dec. 24, 2023.

Spencer was born to Joseph and Ann (Pearson) Smith on Jan. 17, 1958. He was the oldest of three children. Around the age of seven they moved to Missouri Valley, where Spencer attended school and graduated in 1976 from MVHS. He started working for the school district at the time and stayed until 1995.

In 1995, he started working for Vulcan Industries Inc., where he was the head of the electrical engineering department until 2023.

Spencer married his wife Thelma (Tellie) in 1985, and they were married 38 years at the time of his passing. Together they have three daughters, Ambrosia (Amber) Johnson & Adam, Alexis (Lex) Smith, Madisyn Smith & Kyle; as well as two grandchildren, Kyra Johnson and James Smith.

Spencer loved spending time outside, working in the yard and building things out of scrap wood. He enjoyed everything cars, car shows, working on cars, and especially drag racing. His favorite rock band of all time was KISS; you were likely to see him do all the Gene Simmons moves during any given song. Spencer loved traveling for his job and took great pride in doing his work. His greatest joy came from his family. He loved bragging about his daughters and grandchildren to anyone that would listen.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Michelle; father, Joe; mother, Ann and nephew, Shawn.

Remaining here to cherish him are his wife, Tellie; daughters, Amber (Adam), Lex and Madisyn (Kyle); grandchildren, Kyra & James; sisters Vanita Jensen & Anita Salter and his nieces.

Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, at Hennessey Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service was held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. Marie Ellithorpe officiated. The music selections were “God of Thunder” and “Into The Mystic”. The honorary pallbearers were Roger Holcombe, Mark Hoffman, Joel Fredrickson, Jay Kirk, Donnie Salter, Adam Johnson and Mike Christensen.
