Travis William Short was born on Oct. 17, 1970, to Doug and Donna (Swanger) Short, in Blair, Neb.  He passed away on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley.  Travis graduated from Missouri Valley High School in May of 1989.  He attended Iowa Western Community College for a time and then worked at several local businesses as well as owning his own liquor store, Short Stop Liquor, for five years.  He worked at Community Memorial Hospital for the past 18 years as a Medical Receptionist Specialist. Travis also owned a DJ business, Short Productions, that handled hundreds of weddings and school dances in western Iowa.  In his spare time, he enjoyed being involved with all things Missouri Valley athletics. He volunteered for many years as the P. A. announcer for Missouri Valley Boys basketball games and helped compile MV football stats.

The primary passions in Travis’s life were spending time with friends and following sports.  During high school, he was the manager for football, wresting, boys track, and baseball teams.  As an adult, he was an avid Alabama football, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Rams, and Las Vegas Raiders fan. He enjoyed traveling with friends to see his favorite teams play. 

Travis is preceded in death by his mother, Donna Short.

Travis is survived by his father, Doug Short Sr. of Missouri Valley; brother, Doug Jr. and wife Carolyn of Beecher, Ill.; and nephews, Keegan Short of Seattle, Wash., Garrett Short of Greenville, N.C., and Ethan Short of Beecher, Ill., and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at Community of Christ Church in Missouri Valley. The funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at Community of Christ Church in Missouri Valley. Pastor Connie McWilliams officiated. The music selections were “Tears in Heaven” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. The casket bearers were Brian Knott, Brian Briggs, Keegan Short, Garrett Short, Ethan Short and Doug Short Jr. The final resting place is Branson Cemetery at a later date.
