Dunlap mental health office to host Oct. 14 open house
Residents can meet local therapists and learn about mental health services during an Oct. 14 open house at Family Connections Inc., 612 Iowa Ave. in Dunlap.
The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and marks the agency’s 25th anniversary. Its Dunlap office opened in March 2023 and offers individual, couples and family counseling through in-person and telehealth appointments.
Therapists Michelle Loew and Carla Spahn will attend, along with agency directors, clinical supervisors and Behavioral Health Intervention Services providers. The event will include office tours and refreshments.
According to the agency, the open house is intended to give residents a chance to ask questions and meet providers before deciding whether to schedule an appointment.
Local appointments can reduce travel time for rural families, limiting the hours children miss school and adults miss work. The Dunlap office also provides an option for clients who prefer to meet in person or lack a private place for a telehealth appointment.
Loew works with children, adolescents and adults, including people dealing with difficult emotions, relationship challenges and past trauma. Spahn works with children through older adults, with a focus that includes trauma recovery. She uses approaches such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, known as EMDR.
The office also offers Behavioral Health Intervention Services, which focus on developing practical skills.
The Dunlap location is accepting new clients, and no outside referral is required. During an initial call, staff collect basic information and insurance details. The billing department then estimates session costs based on the client’s coverage.
