Panthers shut down Westerners
Logan-Magnolia clawed their way to a 17-7 win at Akron-Westfield in the Class A, D-8 finale on Oct. 16. With the win, the Panthers advanced to their eighth straight playoff berth.
“We demonstrated what this team is all about,” stated first year Head Coach Jack West. “It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t pretty, but they continued to battle and fight to the end. We controlled a majority of the first half with our energy, and slammed the door shut in the second half.”
Defensively, Crosby Yoder (8.5 tackles / 1 Int), Robert Bothwell (6.0 tackles), Keenan Kuhlman (4.0 tackles) and Rowdy Andersen (3.5 tackles) led a strong defensive effort. Brodie Davis (2 Ints) and Ashton Peszulik (1 Int) added a pair of defensive stops.
Offensively, Peszulik (117 yds passing / 58 yards rushing, 1 TD), Max Wingert (49 yards rushing), and Crosby Yoder (28 yds rushing, 1 TD) led the offensive charge.
“This win is incredibly rewarding,” West concluded. “The coaching staff is incredibly proud of their effort and resiliency. They are a ton of fun to be around, and we’re not ready for it to end. We’re excited to prep them for this week’s big challenge.”
Up Next (Oct. 23): Logan-Magnolia (3-3, 5-3) will travel back north to face #1 West Sioux in the 2026 Class A State Playoff opener on Oct. 23 in Hawarden.
