Michael Dean Waldemer, 88, passed away on July 23, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born June 2, 1935, in rural Pisgah, to Michael and Alleyne (Lyon) Waldemer. He was raised on a farm east of Pisgah, graduating from Pisgah High School in 1953. Michael left for the Navy, along with four others from the area, and was stationed in San Diego. To him those men were like brothers. After the service, he returned to the family farm and family became his life. Michael was a good steward of God’s land and took pride in his farm. In addition to farming, he raised hogs and cattle. He also drove a school bus for West Harrison Schools beginning in 1978. It was when his mom, Alleyne, was substitute teaching for Carolyn Hansen that he was introduced to her and she became his lifelong partner. They married in August of 1959. The couple was blessed with four children, Ronnie, Kristi, Tricia and Diane.

Michael and Carolyn enjoyed going to the dance club with several other couples. They were quite good dancers! Michael enjoyed watching westerns and baseball, especially the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed playing pool in his retirement years. He and Carolyn were snowbirds spending five winters in Arizona, where he was known to be found playing pool. Michael was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pisgah. He was a man of faith and integrity. Three days prior to his death, he was talking about having faith and how he would soon be meeting the Lord and reunited with Carolyn. He was respected and loved by many, but especially his family.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn; and sister, Dorothy (Lawrence) Barry of Woodbine. He is survived by his four children, Ron (Peggy) Waldemer of Springfied, Mo., Kristi (Larry) Rife of Mondamin, Tricia (Bryan) Fischer of Simpsonville, S.C. and Diane (Rick) Ruffcorn of Modale; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Murial (Bill) Lyle of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Soldier Valley Cemetery in Pisgah. The musical selections were “How Great Thou Art” by Jon Barker and “Thank You for Being My Dad” by Bryan Fischer. The pallbearers were Ron Waldemer, Rick Ruffcorn, Larry Rife and Bryan Fischer. Military Rites were performed by the Navy Honor Guard.
