WEST HARRISON COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION MONTHLY MEETING – 6:30PM January 11, 2023 LIBRARY – MONDAMIN, IA The West Harrison Community School District Board of Education met in regular session with the following present: Randy Wohlers, Julie Kuhlman, Hillary Stevenson, Kim Nunez and Lorraine Peterson, Directors. Mr. Marty Fonley, Superintendent, Mrs. Jackie Fonley, Principal, Tonya Radil, Board Secretary/Treasurer Visitors. Jami Sherer WHEA Representative, Sydney Sherer, Holly Brock, Lori Stitz, Ivan Gentry, Kathy Glennie, Nick Gral, Hans Andersen, Hannah Thomas, Mikey Peterson, Abe Pavlik, and Brady Lewis Called to Order. The meeting was called to order in the library at 6:30 p.m. by President Wohlers. Roll Call. Consent Agenda. A motion was made by Director Kuhlman and seconded by Director Nunez to consent agenda, November 9th board minutes, the approval of monthly bills from December and January, and the approval of financial reports. Discussion. Wohlers aye, Kuhlman aye, Nunez aye, and Peterson aye 4-0 Motion carried. Public Items of Discussion. Nick Gral spoke on behalf of Hans Andersen and informed the board that they may request a future closed session to address their concerns. Board Items of Discussion. Human Resources. A motion was made by Director Peterson and seconded by Director Nunez to accept the resignation of Andrew Stevenson (Head Boys Track). Discussion. Wohlers aye, Kuhlman aye, Nunez aye, and Peterson aye 4-0 Motion carried. Consideration of At-Risk Drop Out Prevention. A motion was made by Director Kuhlman and seconded by Director Nunez to apply for the maximum amount of $102,195 in At- Risk/Dropout Prevention Funding. Discussion. Wohlers aye, Kuhlman aye, Nunez aye, and Peterson aye 4-0 Motion carried. Consideration of Youth Basketball Tournament. A motion was made by Director Nunez and seconded by Director Kuhlman to approve the Youth Basketball Tournament. The tournament proceeds will be split between Post Prom and the athletic department. Discussion. Wohlers aye, Kuhlman aye, Nunez aye, and Peterson aye 4-0 Motion carried. Director Stevenson entered the board meeting at 6:36pm. Consideration of King Grant Purchases. A motion was made by Director Nunez and seconded by Director Kuhlman to accept the King Foundation Grants and approve the purchases financed by the King Grants. Discussion. A motion was made by Director Peterson and seconded by Director Stevenson to approve the Needs Assessment Survey. Discussion. WHEA BARGAINING PROPOSAL AEA Board –Ivan Gentry, Executive Director for the AEA, shared with the board the many great features the AEA has to offer. Administrative Reports: Mrs. Fonley shared with the board the 1st semester progress and that she was pleased with the results. She was invited to Simpson College to help with mock interviews with their junior and senior students. She discussed holiday activities in December. The elementary students went to see a movie at the Rialto Theater; they decorated cookies and had hot cocoa. There was middle school dance and K-12 dress up days. Mrs. Fonley shared the success they are having with the new SOAR tickets for positive behavior. Winter screening for K-8 literacy and math will begin soon. Mr. Fonley reports that the 1st phase of the foundation is complete, and the 2nd phase will begin this summer. Mr. Fonley shared his thoughts on art and music teachers for the next fiscal year and the possibility of continuing to share art and music for the high school. Adjournment.
